These handles are made from oyster shells harvested from producers base on the Oleron Island, which are then crushed and cast in resin. Laguiole originated in the 1920s in the village of the same name; a small mountain settlement of the Aveyron in Southwestern France. Inspired by the Hispanic ‘Navaja’ and their local knife, the ‘Capouchadou’, they created Laguiole Knives. Each knife is designed, built, bolstered, sharpened, polished and finished by hand from start to finish, resulting in a unique and exceptional knife that is guaranteed to last a lifetime.
